A synergy between retaining a historic dairy building in a meaningful way, and creating healthy urban living environments.

Turner’s Dairy pioneers a unique 13 townhouses on 2 single-family lots, while being a love letter to its historic form. Ecological processes such as deconstruction, material restoration and reuse, propelled a new standard for meaningful heritage builds. In a 10-year upward battle against rigid legal framework and tired old norms, we brought forward a contemporary, diverse and resilient community. Quality of everyday living is prioritized through vegetation and open shared spaces which bring about passive yet comfortable solutions to volatile climate changes, such as heatwaves.

AIRstudio sought out to create homes that embodied environmental, social and economic pillars which are essential to the future of the neighborhood and the city. With this in mind the following goals were achieved:

Create a ground-oriented urban typology that:

provides as many units as possible in two single-family homes.
re-uses as many materials that already exist on-site.
honors its historic form while expressing its new life.
