100 Year Bauhaus Event Series

100 Years of Bauhaus is a week long event celebrating the centennial of design and architectural modernism.  A joint venture between the German Consulate Vancouver, the West Vancouver Art Museum and UBC SALA, the exhibition will display the works of notable  German and Canadian artists.

Highlights include photographs by Jean Molitor, whose work spans continents from Africa, Asia and into corners of  South America. The intention of Molitor is to underscore connections and the global exchange that took place during the Bauhaus era and beyond, documenting the buildings of this period as they appear in everyday life. An Artist Talk with Molitor, interviewed by Mass Abedi, will be held at the West Vancouver Art Museum.

Also featured is the work of Selwyn Pullan who  was a leading commercial photographer, Pullan’s architectural photography from the 50s to 70s promoted a modern way of living in Vancouver and beyond. His selected works are a collection of mid-century modern residences and buildings that have been modified or demolished.

To accompany the exhibition, a lecture will be given by Dr. Eduard Kögel on the Bauhaus and New Objectivity in Architecture. Dr. Kögel’s practice is centered around the development of architecture and urban planning in Non-European countries. He is an expert in the analysis of urban structures and lectures regularly at the Berlin Institute of Technology.

Please join us to celebrate the life of the 20th century’s most important art and design schools!
