Inge Roecker (she/her) | PrincipalAs the founder of AIR studio (formerly ASIR Studio), Inge’s work is focused on multi-unit housing, sustainable practices, and architecture's relationship to social and cultural issues such as aging populations and inclusive design. Her practice embodies an independent form of modernism while addressing the everyday experiences of people and communities through housing. She is committed to sustainable building practices and is a trained Passive House professional. Inge is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of British Columbia where she specializes in studios focused on community partnerships and housing. She is the co-founder of the interdisciplinary research collective Design for Inclusion which explores resilience in urban communities through architectural inquiry. Inge's work in research and design have been recognized internationally through awards, publications, and exhibitions.
Paula M. Rubio | Head of Strategy & Research With a background in environmental design, Paula joined the design communications team at AIR studio in 2019. Paula has worked across multiple community-oriented teams, including Campus and Community Planning and the Botanical Garden at the University of British Columbia. Paula has a growing interest for the management and development of the architecture and design business which drives her interdisciplinary role at AIR studio.
Jessica Chen (she/her) | Collaborator, Design for InclusionJessica Chen is a Canadian city planning professional currently based in Montréal Quebec. Her career focus has been social inclusion and urban strategies that encourage pluralistic understanding of the cities. Jessica holds a Master Degree in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania and started her professional career in the public sector, first in Philadelphia, United States, then in Vancouver Canada. Her 12-year planning career at the City of Vancouver focused on regeneration of historic inner-city neighbourhoods tackling issues of gentrification, heritage conservation, affordable housing and social inclusivity. She founded her consulting practice Wabi Sabi Planning Lab in 2013 and relocated to Montreal soon after.Her work through Wabi Sabi Planning Lab examines how cultural and community-owned assets, including housing, help shape a more resilient urban landscape and city economy. Her projects often research and advocate for community equity building. She is currently working on Design for Inclusion initiative, in collaboration with Inge Rocker of AIR Studio, to innovate design processes toward new inclusive housing models.
